Agentic AI makes brand falsifiable for the first time

August 2026  ·  Agentic AI, Brand strategy, CMO

BCG and Yale's Center for Customer Insights argue agentic AI will make the CMO's role more consequential. Most CMOs will read that as good news. It is a warning.

Their argument: brands must now compete not only for customers' attention, but for the trust of the intelligent systems making decisions on their behalf.

An agent has no vibe. It cannot be moved by a mood film or a brand platform deck. It evaluates inputs — claims, ratings, price, structured data — identically, every time.

Which makes brand falsifiable for the first time.

For twenty years the CMO's escape hatch was “brand is long-term, you can't measure it this quarter.” When the buyer is an agent, every soft claim becomes a testable input with a pass or fail.

I've spent years in supplements, where you already cannot say what you cannot substantiate. That always felt like a constraint. It is about to be an advantage.

The CMOs who struggle won't be the ones who ignored AI. They'll be the ones whose claims were never built to survive being checked.

Can your top three brand claims survive an agent verifying them?
